How to care your jewelry

Info center - What is Diamond | What is Gold | What is Silver | What is Pearl | What is Gem Stone | How to care your jewelry

There are so many types of jewelry available in the market that it becomes difficult to pick one.  But when you buy any kind of jewelry, it also needs to be taken care of.

Whether, it is a pearl, gold, silver, diamond or any gemstone, proper care and attention must be given to your jewelry otherwise carelessness on your part can damage and the precious jewelry may loose its luster.

Different gemstones need different kind of precautions because of the nature of their origin. For instance, jewelry made up of organic gemstones such as pearl, emerald and opal needs to be protected against sunlight otherwise they will loose their shine.

Because of spongy quality of pearls they must not be cleaned with a cloth immersed in liquid and must always be kept in a soft material jewelry box (velvety jewelry box). Never use anything, especially highly inflammable chemicals or products containing them on soft gemstones.

In case of gemstones made up from minerals, cleaning them with a wet cloth will augment their luster.

You should always store your gemstones jewelry in a jewelry box that has spacious compartments so as to keep the soft and hard gemstone jewelry separately otherwise the harder ones might scrape through the softer ones.

Never expose any kind of gemstone (hard or soft) to the sunlight because due to excessive heat, the burnishing properties of gemstone may change.

Whenever you bathe or go for swimming, always remove your jewelry because chlorine is there in the water and can discolor your jewelry.

One of the easiest methods to give a new looks to your jewelry using homely way is to clean it with lukewarm water with soap mixed in it. Always remember to clean the back of your jewelry because maximum dust collects there and blocks the passage of light to enter the jewel.

Many big jewelers or branded jewelry stores provides complimentary jewelry cleaning services when you purchase jewelry from them.
