Gemstone can be defined as a  stoneor rock that is incised as well as refined so that it can be later fashioned in a jewelry. Some gemstones are very rare, fragile and too precious too be used in a jewelry and hence, those soft Gemstones are displayed in museums.

A gemstone is valued for its immense splendour; that is why an appearance of a gemstone is its most important characteristics. Diamond is the most hardest and naturally occurring gemstone.

Gemstones are classified into precious stones and semi-precious stones. Only five types of gemstones are considered worth (precious): diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald, and amethyst. Gemstones are never used in their natural form.

They are often treated to enhance color and lucidity. Some yellow or white colored gemstones, such as topaz, when heated turn into different shades of pink.

Different treatments are given to different gemstones Some of the gemstones that contain natural gaps are filled with wax or oil to change their attributes and some of them are coated with suitable chemicals to change their appearance but the coating done on gemstones is not permanent in nature and can be tarnished by hard scratching.

Proper care must be taken of gemstones. If you have different varieties of gemstone, then keep the softer gemstones separate from harder ones so that softer gemstones don’t get a scratch on them. Rings have tendency to collect dust and soap behind the gemstone, particularly if they are worn every time.

Regular cleaning of these kinds of rings must be done so that light can easily enter your gemstone and make them shine.

Organic gemstones such as pearls and corals must be cleaned with a wet cloth. As these gems are soft and spongy, they can be damaged when come in contact with chemicals.

Minute attention and common sense on your part can add vitality, shine and robustness to your gemstones. So, be careful and never take a chance.
