It was just another of the numerous Sunday newspaper supplements that
our newspaper boy slides under our door every week. But this Sunday,
it caught the fancy of my mom.
It was an advertising pamphlet by a
jewelry shop, specializing in pendants. Diamond pendants,
silver pendants, gold pendants, platinum pendants-they
all lay there, printed in all kinds of entrancing shapes
and designs.
As my mother's hand moved over the lacquered pamphlet pendants
longingly, i sat there pondering over pendants and the fascination they
entice in women from all classes.
Pendants are inarguably the most requisite accessory in a woman's
jewelry box.
A must-have for every woman, A pendant is basically a
decorative piece of jewelry (gold, diamond, silver, platinum, pearls,
enamel etc) attached to any kind of necklace that can be worn
around one's neck. |

Neither too gaudy nor too heavy, today's women in
their modern avatar, they find pendants absolutely indispensable.
They are not only non-fusty; it's also so incredibly easy to carry them off!
Pendants combine all the paradoxes that a woman's existence is replete
with: grace and playfulness; lavishness and sensibility;
dignity and style.
It's perhaps the only form of jewelry which can
be considered tailor-made for every occasion.
A heavy diamond pendant
embellished with precious gems and stones, just right
to wear to a extravagant wedding party; classy without being kitschy.
Or a simple heart shaped silver one, to wear to office the next morning;
casual
Even the Queen Cleopatra of Egypt is known to have worn diamond,
pearl and gemstone pendants around her neck during her era. |
Thus, from gratifying a queen's appetite for splendor unbound to
satisfying a non-fussy next door Mrs. X who likes silver
pendants coz they "go with just about any outfit”, the 'decorative piece of jewelry
attached to a necklace' has definitely come a long way. And they are
always going to be in vogue. Ask my mom!
